A Mississauga man has died after reportedly racing on Hwy. 401 and failing to wear a seatbelt.
Alizeb Mirza, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene, near the Dixie Rd. exit, just before midnight Monday.
His Lexus was traveling westbound at “a high rate of speed,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
Mirza wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, cops said, and was thrown when his car went into the median ditch, rolling over.
A post-mortem will be held today or tomorrow and will determine if drugs or alcohol were in Mirza’s system.
The other vehicle took off, said Schmidt, and cops are asking anyone on the road at that time to come forward.
“Very regularly, we’ll get reports of vehicles racing,” Schmidt said.
Cops said 42 people have been killed this year on OPP-patrolled roads, up from 34 people in 2014 for the same time period.
