Provincial police are asking for the public’s help with a drug-related traffic stop at the QEW and Cawthra Rd. in which the driver and his passenger fled.
A vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation Monday in south Mississauga. The officer, from the Port Credit detachment, spoke with the man driving; a female passenger was in the vehicle. The driver didn’t cooperate, said police, and when the officer tried to arrest him, the man fled. Peel police officers found the abandoned vehicle a short time later near Lakeshore Rd. E., west of Cawthra Rd.
A search in the area for the duo was unsuccessful, said police.
Drugs and weapons were recovered inside the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Carullo at 905-278-6131 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The incident comes two days after another chase linked to drugs.
An OPP officer from the Port Credit detachment was patrolling Hwy. 401 on Saturday and saw a vehicle weaving through traffic and speeding.
The officer followed and conducted a traffic stop near Dixie Rd. in Mississauga.
After a roadside investigation, the officer instructed the driver to exit his vehicle since he was under arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
The man complied but as the officer was taking him into custody, the man resisted, broke free, and fled the scene in his vehicle.
The officer followed and saw the suspect throw items from inside as he drove along the highway. A short time later, the driver stopped and was arrested without a fight.
The items launched from the vehicle were recovered by police.
Kitwana Williams, 27, of Mississauga, is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, obstructing a peace officer, and possession of a Schedule II substance – marijuana.
