It’s a case that’s tough to chew.
The public’s help is needed to identify a suspect wanted in connection with a chewing gum theft in York Region after a Markham pharmacy had $1,528 worth of gum taken on Dec. 17.
That’s when a man, arriving by taxi, entered the Shoppers Drug Mart near Hwy. 7 and Kennedy Rd at 7:20 p.m.
Video footage shows the man walking to a candy aisle, opening a garbage bag and filling it with chewing gum.
The suspect leaves, then returns shortly after to fill another garbage bag.
York Regional Police believe the man loaded both garbage bags into a waiting taxi.
Police said they’ve exhausted all leads and are releasing video and images of the suspect to see if someone can identify him.
The suspect is described as a brown male, 40 to 50, standing five-foot-seven with a medium build.
He had a salt and pepper beard, and was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and a blue cap.
