Investigators are looking into the cause of a roof fire at Port Credit Secondary School early Tuesday.
“The roof is under construction,” said Mississauga Fire Platoon Chief Danny Ennamorato, adding major flames were visible when the call came in at 5:15 a.m.
No injuries were reported, said Peel Police Const. Bally Saini.
Construction crews were at 70 Mineola Rd. E. all weekend, said Ennamorato. That’s when work began.
There’s a bit of damage to third-floor classrooms, in addition to minor smoke and water damage, he said. Custodial staff are beginning the cleanup process.
“No students or staff were present at the school at the time of the fire,” reads a statement from the Peel District School Board, adding “at this point, we do not know when the building will be available for staff and students.” Fire crews remained on scene as roads reopened at 9:15 a.m.
