Mississauga man charged after SUV torched in Meadowvale

A Mississauga man is facing charges in connection with an incident involving a stolen vehicle being set on fire in Meadowvale and shots being fired outside of Peel police headquarters.
Police say a man’s SUV was parked at 22 Division in Brampton on Oct. 28.
Officers determined the Dodge Durango was stolen.
When officers approached the suspect, police say the man drove toward officers.
An officer fired a single shot, which didn’t strike the suspect.
The vehicle fled police headquarters.
Officers chased the suspect, calling it off after a brief pursuit.
The torched vehicle was found the next morning near Meadowvale Town Centre.
Police say the SUV is linked to gas-and-dash thefts in the GTA.

Umair Butt, 28, was arrested Oct. 30. Butt is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, arson, and flight from police.
