A Mississauga woman is facing a public mischief charge for allegedly reporting an abduction triggering an Amber Alert.
Peel police say the incident took place Jan. 25 at 1:25 p.m.
A witness told officers she saw a female being forced into a vehicle near St. Barbara Blvd. and Comiskey Cres., in the Derry Rd. W. and McLaughlin Rd. area.
A 15-year-old girl was reported missing from the Mississauga area the same day.
“At that time, the witness who reported the abduction to police provided investigators with information that led them to believe the missing female was possibly the abducted female which resulted in an Amber Alert,” reads a news release issued Friday.
“The missing 15-year-old female was later located in good health and the investigation determined that she was not the victim of the abduction.”
The reported abduction “involved numerous police personnel, resources, and partnering agencies,” say officers.
The investigation wrapped Jan. 26, with police concluding the reported abduction was a sham.
Uzma Khan, 32, was arrested and charged.
She’s scheduled to appear in Brampton court on Feb. 28.
Anyone with information is asked to phone the 12 Division criminal investigation bureau at 905-453-2121 ext. 1233 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
