The manhunt for an armed suspect moved to Toronto’s Lake Shore strip Sunday.
Three arrests have been made after a Peel police officer and another man were shot in Brampton, and cops are appealing for a fourth suspect to turn himself in.
The officer was responding to a 911 call at 10:20 p.m. Friday on Stokes Rd., north of Steeles Ave. W. near Chinguacousy Rd.
Numerous shots were fired at the officer as he exited his cruiser, with one bullet striking him.
The officer managed to drive away.
The civilian victim was shot prior to police arrival, said Const. Thomas Ruttan.
The officer is in serious but stable condition, while the other victim was treated by paramedics and taken to a Toronto trauma unit where he remains in stable condition.
The fourth suspect – obviously considered armed and dangerous – remains at large.
Police are looking for a black man wearing dark clothing.
The tactical and canine units were on scene Saturday as cops continued combing the Stokes Rd. area.
A York Regional Police chopper was brought in to help.
Police Chief Jennifer Evans released a statement thanking community members “and police leaders for their support and well wishes for our officer as he recovers. We are stronger together.”
Cops are asking the public not to share information about police activity via social media during the investigation.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call 911, and tips can be directed to investigators at 905-453-3311 x2233 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
