A woman remains in police custody Monday after a little boy was killed in a south Mississauga apartment building, sources tell the QEW South Post.
The boy is a toddler.
Peel Police and paramedics were called to 2177 Sherobee Rd., near North Service Rd., at 2:36 p.m. for an ‘assist citizen’ call. A baby carriage was in the lobby, where police guarded the front entrance.
“We aren’t confirming the relationship,” between the victim and the accused, Peel Regional Police Const. Rachel Gibbs said at the scene. Gibbs said police also aren’t releasing the child’s age or any details about the suspect.
Family is still being notified about the boy’s death.
Police are “not looking for any outstanding suspects,” said Const. Lori Murphy. “It looks like it’s an isolated incident.”
Sherobee is just north of the QEW, east of Hurontario St., where Rishi Desai, 19, said he’s lived for eight years. Desai was shocked to see so much police activity.
“There’s never any major issues that I’ve heard about in this neighbourhood,” Desai said, adding it’s “terrifying” to hear of a child being killed.
The homicide squad is investigating.
