A South Common shooting on Christmas Eve is linked to a multi-vehicle crash in Vaughan after the alleged gunman fled two scenes.
“The suspect is in hospital right now,” said York Regional Police Insp. Dave Riches.
It started in Mississauga, where a 22-year-old man was shot near The Collegeway and Glen Erin Dr., with Peel Police receiving word at 11:52 p.m.
The victim was driven to hospital, where he remains with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who is known to the victim, according to Peel investigators, bolted.
York officers responded to a call at 1:20 a.m. at Weston Rd. and Rutherford Rd. in Vaughan where several vehicles were struck before the suspect “fled the scene and struck the light post,” said Riches.
The man was arrested at the scene and the intersection was closed, reopening around 8 a.m.
Other motorists reported minor injuries.
The suspect is facing weapons and driving charges and will appear in Newmarket court Friday for a bail hearing.
Although the suspect is tied to the shooting and the crash, “they’re two separate incidents,” said Peel spokeswoman Const. Bally Saini.
Peel Police are still investigating the shooting, Saini said, adding it’s “isolated.”
