Those big green metal boxes on residential lawns and boulevards are being targeted by thieves, and police are asking for the public’s help to stop it.

“There may be another use that we don’t know about,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Rachel Gibbs.
Several reports have been filed with police across different divisions, where industrial batteries are being stolen from street-side cable and utility cabinets.
Detectives from 11 division’s criminal investigation bureau are working the case.
Police are reminding the public to immediately report any suspicious activity, and don’t touch an open cabinet, as power might still be running through the cabinet and could create an electric shock. Anyone with information is asked to call (905) 453-2121 ext. 1133 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS 8477.
