An alleged Mississauga pimp is facing human trafficking charges following an arrest by OPP near Midland.
Investigators with Peel’s major drugs and vice squad say the suspect met the alleged victim in March 2015, luring her into the sex trade industry.
The man, arrested Thursday afternoon, is known to police.
He’s accused of profiting from the victim’s acts and exercising control over all aspects of her life.
The woman is 24 and doesn’t live in the GTA.
Targets of human trafficking have “been generally in the teenage years,” said Const. Mark Fischer.
Police believe there may be more victims.
“If anyone has had dealings with this gentleman, we urge you to contact the drugs and vice unit,” said Fischer.
Lowell Somerville, 34, is charged with human trafficking, exercising control, advertising for sexual services, administering a noxious substance, uttering threats, and two counts apiece of receiving material benefit and sexual assault with a weapon.
The suspect appeared in court Friday for a bail hearing.
