A 12-year-old Mississauga girl is in critical condition at SickKids hospital after she was hit by a bus while riding her bike Thursday.
Emergency crews responded to a call at Aquitaine Ave. and Formentera Ave. at 8:35 p.m.
Paramedics treated and transported the girl to hospital.
Officers on scene – between the old Blockbuster Video and Beer Store plazas – were examining a royal blue men’s bike in front of a westbound MiWay bus on Aquitaine Ave.
Four passengers were on board the Route 109 Meadowvale Express, city spokeswoman Carley Smith DeBenedictis confirmed Friday.
When a city bus collides with a pedestrian or cyclist, the driver is relieved of his or her duties, provided medical attention if necessary, and offered employee assistance and peer support, she said, noting a replacement driver and bus is assigned to the route.
A MiWay supervisor was also at the scene.
City staff wouldn’t confirm if the driver went to hospital, saying “this is personal information.”
It’s too early to determine if charges are being laid against the bus driver, said Peel Police Const. Bally Saini. The major collision bureau is investigating. Witnesses are asked to phone (905) 453-2121 ext. 3710 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.

Is there an update on the status of the girl’s condition? I was in the area when this happened and I cannot stop worrying about her?
