Peel Regional Police constables Paul Vreugdenhil, Rob Schembri, and Tim Weatherley are winners of the Community Hero Award, presented at Mississauga City Hall on Thursday, May 26, 2016. The trio saved a fellow officer, Const. Ron Giles, in April 2015 after Giles was stabbed in the arm while responding to a mental health call. Giles was severely injured. “As police officers, our number one goal is to serve our community, and this was an opportunity for us to actually help somebody who serves the community every day in a very admirable way,” said Schembri. “For us to be able to actually help Ron … from a situation which could’ve prevented him from further serving the community, is an honour.”
