Volunteers are still required for Friday’s Canada Day extravaganza in south Mississauga.
“There’s lots of people needed to walk in the parade,” said Port Credit BIA general manager Ellen Timms.
Some of them may be accompanying a mascot.
With at least 1,000 people marching, the parade begins at 11 a.m. along Lakeshore Rd. near Stavebank Rd. E., heading east to Wenonah Dr. “where there’s a giant cake cutting,” said Timms.
Send a note to volunteer@portcredit.com if you’d like to help out.
The parade is part of Paint The Town Red, which is expected to draw more than 10,000 people, said Timms.
“It’s a super, great day,” she said.
Live music, children’s activities and an array of events are taking place at several spots along Lakeshore.
The Legion is hosting a free BBQ for kids 12 and under, complete with a magician around 1 p.m..
Main stage entertainment runs all day, starting at noon at Memorial Park.
“There really is something for everybody,” said Timms.
In addition to food vendors, restaurants and shops will be open.
“They’ll be working really hard to get everybody fed,” she said.
Fireworks begin at 10:10 p.m.
Environment Canada is predicting a few showers beginning early in the afternoon with a risk of a thunderstorm and a high of 22 C. It will feel like 25 C with the Humidex.
“Hopefully the weather is going to hold up,” said Timms.
“Bring your umbrella.”
