A Brampton pimp is spending the next 10 years behind bars after being convicted of several prostitution-related offences involving two young victims.
Miguel Lewis, 23, was sentenced on Dec. 12.
“To the extent that this offence is on the rise, the court needs to be mindful that stiff sentences send a message to the community that this form of conduct will not be tolerated,” the Honourable Justice C. Ann Nelson said during sentencing, according to Peel police.
“Further, offenders who contemplate engaging in this type of conduct need to be deterred by the prospect of significant jail sentences.”
Peel’s major drugs and vice unit began investigating Lewis in Nov. 2015 after identifying two young female victims who were being controlled and influenced in the sex trade by Lewis in Peel Region and other parts of the GTA.
He was arrested Nov. 18, 2015, and charged with several prostitution and pimping-related crimes.
A second young female victim was later identified.
Police arrested Lewis again Dec. 14, 2015, charging him with additional offences.
Lewis was convicted on Sept. 19, 2016, following a weeklong trial at the Brampton courthouse.
He was found guilty of advertising sexual services; two counts of exercising control on a person under 18 years; two counts of deriving a material benefit; sexual interference; breach of probation; and breach of recognizance.
Anyone with information about prostitution, human trafficking or pimping activity in Peel Region is asked to phone (905) 453-2121 ext. 3515 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
