A 22-year-old Mississauga man wanted in connection with a gunpoint robbery – which critically injured a man – has been arrested after investigators found him in Jamaica.
The suspect arrested Friday “is the alleged shooter,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Rachel Gibbs.
Police believe the man was involved in a Feb. 13 shooting around 10 p.m. on Cindy Cres., near Bloor St. and Dixie Rd.
Marek Rugala, 56, was targeted by the suspect and his 21-year-old son, Mark Rugala, who used a .22-calibre pistol to rob him of a luxury Breitling watch, according to the Mississauga News.
Police said the accused went to the victim’s home and became involved in an altercation. The suspect fired several gunshots through the front door, striking the victim.
“His injuries were quite serious,” said Gibbs.
The suspect fled the scene. Paramedics treated the victim and took him to a Toronto trauma unit.
Mark Rugala was arrested on May 27 and charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and counselling an indictable offence.
A warrant was issued for the alleged shooter’s arrest. Cops learned the suspect was in Jamaica and worked with police there to find the man and return him to Canada.
Michael Wilson is charged with attempted murder and was being held for a bail hearing at the Brampton courthouse.
