A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a murder in the Square One area after a body was found in an abandoned house.
Cops responded to a call for a suspicious death at 2 p.m. Wednesday on Elm Dr., near Hurontario St., north of Central Pkwy.
Ronald William Escott, 59, of no fixed address, was found with no obvious signs of trauma.
Other people were in the house at the time, and one of them phoned police.
The cause of death is not being revealed.
“At no time was there any concern for public safety,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Thomas Ruttan.
Information wasn’t released sooner “due to the necessity to protect the integrity of our investigation,” he said.
An autopsy held Thursday determined the man had suffered physical trauma and cops arrested a suspect in Mississauga the same day, marking Peel’s 12th homicide of the year.
Jason Hamlyn, of no fixed address, is charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled for a bail hearing in Brampton court Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at (905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
