New Yorker charged with attempted murder in downtown Toronto machete attack

A 35-year-old New Yorker is facing an attempted murder charge after an incident involving a machete sent a man to hospital with head and leg wounds.
Toronto Police responded to a call for a person with a knife at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Bay St. and Dundas St. W. in downtown Toronto, close to the Eaton Centre.
The victim, 30, was at the corner of the intersection and the attack was unprovoked, said police.
Video footage shows security guards tackling the man from behind and pinning him until police arrived.
Arlington Thompson, 35, of Queens, N.Y. is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, and assault with a weapon.
He is scheduled to appear in Toronto court Thursday.
Police believe there are more victims and witnesses.
