A 70-year-old Burlington man remains in hospital – now in stable condition – after he was stabbed during a robbery at a south Mississauga mall.
The man’s injuries are non-life threatening, said Peel Regional Police Const. Lori Murphy.
Emergency crews were sent to Dixie Outlet Mall at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, where it was believed two men may have been knifed at the Fantastic Flea Market in the mall’s basement.
It turns out only one man, a vendor, was stabbed, after he stepped in to stop the suspect from fleeing the South Service Rd. mall.
The robbery victim, a 36-year-old Oakville man, is a jewellery vendor who was assaulted and treated on scene by Peel Paramedics.
Tactical officers nabbed the suspect – who is originally from Mississauga – at a home near Lakeshore Rd., thanks to tips from the public.
Jesse James Rigo, 24, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and breaching probation.
A jewellery store on the mall’s main level was robbed at gunpoint last Friday. The armed female suspect remains at large.
