Traffic delays near Square One will likely ramp up come April 11.
That’s when construction begins at the City Centre transit terminal for maintenance work, resulting in rerouting of bus stops from the terminal’s platforms in the bus loop.
“MiWay buses will stop at bus bays along Rathburn Road. There will be no lane closures, however there may be increased bus traffic,” said the city’s director of transit Geoff Marinoff.
Drivers can use Centre View Dr. as an alternate route.
Marinoff said measures are in place to ensure a smooth and safe transition and to assist with traffic flow.
Peel Regional Police officers will be on site during the first two weeks of construction, while increased monitoring of traffic cameras on Rathburn will take place.
Traffic signal adjustments will be made.
Concrete corrosion on the terminal’s structural deck at the south end means maintenance is needed; the terminal was built in 1996.
Work is expected to be completed by September.
During construction, the north and south doors of the building will remain open to MiWay customers for ticket sales, customer information, washrooms, and travel to the upper platform.
The east and west doors will be closed.
MiWay bus routes stopping at the terminal will be rerouted and stop locations will change during construction.
