Two Peel men are facing charges after police allegedly found them sleeping in a stolen SUV in Malton early Friday.
Although a cruiser was damaged, “there was no pursuit at any time,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Mark Fischer.
“A cruiser was struck in an attempt to block him.”
The incident unfolded near Airport Rd. and Beverly St. – just north of Derry Rd. – around 2:10 a.m.
Officers ran the plate, noting the Audi Q7 had earlier fled a RIDE checkpoint in 12 Division.
Police laid down a spike belt as the suspects snoozed, placing cruisers around the vehicle.
Officers woke the men, who are accused of immediately ramming into a cruiser and taking off.
No injuries were reported, however, at least two tires were deflated.
The suspects ditched the Audi, fleeing on foot.
Officers soon caught up with the men.
Sahil Sahil, 23, of Mississauga, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, flight from police, failure to comply, and two counts of drug possession.
Sukhwinderpal Sandhu, 23, of Brampton, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
