The Region of Peel is winning when it comes to trash, scoring the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) 2015 Bronze Excellence Award in the recycling systems category.
“Receiving this SWANA award means that we are working towards achieving our vision and being recognized as a best-in-class leader in the waste management field,” director of waste management Norm Lee said in a statement.
The objective is “to deliver cost-effective services that meet the needs of the residents while reducing the negative impacts of waste.”
The 2015 awards honour 31 programs and facilities in 12 categories, spanning numerous areas of municipal solid waste.
Award recipients represent the most innovative organizations on the continent. Judged by their peers, Peel Region received the following recycling systems feedback:
· excellent integration of new technology to extend the life of equipment and systems
· first-rate demonstration of performance, economics, cost effectiveness and downtime
· outstanding presentation of material recovery facility metrics for others to use and follow
· great performance and very good return on investment explanation
Peel Region collects garbage in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.
