She’s in her nineties and shows no sign of slowing down, but her name isn’t Hazel.
Brampton’s Gisele Young was honoured as one of Canada’s Favourite Crossing Guards during a surprise assembly at St. Wilfrid Laurier Public School Wednesday.
Young decided to become a crossing guard after retiring from CIL Plastics 28 years ago, and remains a beloved fixture at St. Wilfrid Laurier.
Going strong at 93, Young has never missed a day of work.
Two more winners will be awarded in their communities; the contest is an initiative of Parachute and FedEx Express Canada.
Winners receive a crystal maple leaf award and $500, and $500 is given to each school.
